Benjamin Leroux founded his Beaune label in 2007 after fifteen vintages at Domaine du Comte Armand. Today, he works with estate vineyards and trusted growers. In addition, he uses organic and biodynamic ideas, plus careful cellar work, to give each wine a clear sense of place.

Vineyards

Sous le Château lies high on the slope, just below the former castle site. Leroux works 1.12 hectares of Chardonnay there. Vines dating from 1930 to 2000 grow on rocky, limestone-rich soil. Because the site sits at high elevation, it keeps the fruit fresh and bright.

Winemaking and Maturation

First, Leroux presses the whole bunches. Then, he settles the juice lightly and moves it to large wooden vats and barrels. Native yeasts start the fermentation. Next, he matures the wine for around 12 months. Finally, he fines or filters only when needed.

Tasting Notes

At first, the wine shows a pale green-gold colour. Then, green apple, crisp plum and lemon peel lead to white flowers and cool stone. The palate feels lively and balanced, with fresh orchard fruit and firm mineral tension. Finally, a clean, lightly salty finish invites another sip.
