Mullineux Granite Chenin Blanc 2019
Vineyards
Grapes for our GRANITE Chenin were sourced from a 45 year old sustainably and dry farmed bush vine vineyard named Eikelaan, planted in the decomposed GRANITE soils of the Paardeberg. This is our highest altitude GRANITE soil vineyard and with the very deep decomposed GRANITE soils tends to produce wines with great acidity and a flinty, stony aromatic profile.
Winemaking and Maturation
Harvested by hand and whole-bunch pressed to barrel. Primary and secondary fermentation in barrel. The wine was left on the lees until spring. Then racked and blended just before the 2023 harvest. Bottled unfiltered.Matured for 11 months in 4th fill 225L French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes
The GRANITE Chenin tends to exhibit a fantastic natural acidity that balances out the texture and mid-palate that all Swartland white wines possess. The nose is flinty with some stone fruit, floral and citrus aromatics. Ageing potential 10-20 years.
