The 2024 Olifantsrivier Lledoner Pelut/Agiorgitiko Rosé explores the new and exciting varietals available in the West Coast area, where we have some of the most extreme growing conditions in South Africa. This wine was made to showcase how new and more drought-tolerant varietals can withstand the tough conditions of this area.
Winemaking and Maturation
Grapes were picked early in the morning to preserve freshness, then cooled down before being whole bunch-pressed to settling tanks. Assyrtiko was pressed and settled to use the Assyrtiko lees on the Agiorgitiko. The Assyrtiko juice was removed and used in another wine. The Agiorgitiko was wild fermented on Assyrtiko lees, and the Lledoner pelut was fermented with Syrah berries. After 4 months in 228-litre barrels, the two wines were blended and bottled. Bottled with the addition of a little sulphur, unfined and unfiltered. W.O. Olifantsriver
Tasting Notes:
On the nose, it is floral, with lime, peach, minerals, Turkish delight, rose petals, and liquorice. The mouth feels intensely salty, and dark fruits are in the background.
