Arnoux-Lachaux

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is one of the most closely followed domaines in contemporary Burgundy. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the estate has undergone a remarkable transformation under Charles Lachaux, emerging as one of the region’s defining names.

The domaine farms exceptional holdings across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny and several of Burgundy’s most revered grands crus. These include sites such as Échézeaux, Latricières-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, alongside a number of outstanding village and premier cru parcels. The vineyards are the foundation of the estate’s identity, with old vines, meticulous farming and a radical focus on plant health and vineyard expression.

Since joining the family domaine, Charles Lachaux has reshaped the approach in both vineyard and cellar. Viticulture is centred on regenerative farming, biodynamic principles, high-trained vines, gobelet pruning, and a complete move away from trimming. The aim is not only to preserve old vines, but to allow each vine to express itself with greater vitality, depth and natural balance.

In the cellar, the philosophy is minimal intervention, but with absolute precision. Whole-cluster vinification, short cuvaisons, and very gentle extraction. From the 2022 vintage, the domaine moved away from oak barrels entirely, replacing them with cement vessels for élevage. This has further emphasised purity, texture and transparency, allowing the wines to speak with remarkable clarity.

What defines Arnoux-Lachaux today is intensity without heaviness. The wines are aromatic, vivid and deeply detailed, combining the sensuality of Vosne-Romanée with a sense of lift, energy and restraint. They are unmistakably Burgundian, yet unmistakably shaped by Charles Lachaux’s singular vision.

Production is extremely limited, and global demand has placed the domaine among the most sought-after names in Burgundy. Yet beyond the scarcity and reputation, these remain wines of profound vineyard focus – precise, alive and uncompromising in their expression of place.

This is Burgundy at its most exciting: transparent, radical and deeply rooted in terroir.
