BIBI GRAETZ
Bibi Graetz is one of Tuscany’s most distinct and compelling winemakers, a true artist whose wines are as expressive and characterful as his paintings. Born and raised in Florence to a family of artists, Bibi was trained as a painter before turning his creative energy to wine. In the late 1990s, he took over his family’s old vineyards on the hills of Fiesole and began making wine in a self-taught, intuitive style that has since earned him international acclaim.
Rather than following the crowd toward Bordeaux varieties and polished, modern styles, Bibi chose to embrace Tuscany’s heritage of old-vine Sangiovese, Colorino, and Canaiolo. He sources grapes from some of the region’s oldest, highest-altitude vineyards, many over 50 years old. His approach is resolutely artisanal and low-intervention: spontaneous fermentations, gentle extraction, minimal new oak, and an insistence on letting each vintage and site speak for itself.
The resulting wines are strikingly pure and full of energy, with vivid aromatics, fine tannins, and an unmistakable sense of place. They have won loyal followings among collectors and sommeliers who value their artistry, elegance, and authenticity. Bibi Graetz’s flagship bottlings, led by Testamatta and Colore, have become benchmarks for a new generation of Tuscan wine, proving that true greatness lies in embracing tradition while fearlessly expressing individuality.
