DOMAINE JASMIN
Domaine Jasmin was founded at the start of the 20th century, with the first vintages made dating as far back as 1910. Since then Domaine Jasmin has risen to the upper echelon of great producers in the Côte Rôtie.
Patrick Jasmin began managing Domaine Jasmin after the accidental death of his father, Robert Jasmin in 1999. Making Côte Rôtie is not new to Patrick Jasmin he is the fourth generation in his family to produce Jasmin Côte Rôtie.
The Domaine spreads over 5.3 hectares of prized lieux-dits, eight located in the southern Côte Blonde and three in the more northern Côte Brune. The vines range in age with the oldest close to 70 years old. The vineyards are exposed to schist, granite, clay and limestone soils. Vineyard work is back-breaking and traditional, no green harvesting is performed in the vineyards.
In the winery, Domaine Jasmin opts to destem all grapes. Each parcel is vinified separately to its own needs and fermentation is done traditionally in cement tanks. Élevage is done in various sizes of French oak barrels that range from 228-litre, 300-litre, 400-litre and 600-litre demi-muids. New oak is kept low at around 20% per year.
The Jasmin style is a beautiful bridge between Burgundy and Côte Rotie, the wines exude supreme elegance and finesse. They are fresh and delicate with a gorgeous bouquet of red fruit. Production is small, with an average of 1200 cases of Côte Rôtie produced per year. You are sure to find the Domaine Jasmin wines in any serious collector’s cellar.
