GOURT DE MAUTENS – JÉRÔME BRESSY

The Passion of One's Craft

Domaine Gourt de Mautens, located in Rasteau, in the Southern Rhône, is a biodynamic producer known for producing exceptional wines – one white and one red.

Jérôme Bressy, the owner and winemaker, is passionate about his craft dedicating himself to achieving the highest level of quality in every vintage. He is known for his sensitivity, perfectionism, and commitment to natural winemaking techniques that allow the unique terroir of his vineyard to shine through in his wines.

Bressy made the switch to biodynamic viticulture in 2008. His philosophy is that great wine is made in the vineyard. He employs natural techniques that focus on the health and well-being of the vines, including composting, crop rotation, and natural treatments to combat pests and diseases.

The yields at Domaine Gourt de Mautens are extremely low, around 12-15 hl/ha, allowing Bressy to obtain the quintessence and singularity of each plot and create a wine that truly reflects the terroir.

The vineyards at Gourt de Mautens are planted with a variety of grapes, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Counoise. The vines are grown in clay and limestone soils rich in minerals and nutrients. Bressy takes great care in hand-picking and sorting the grapes, ensuring that only the finest fruit is used in the winemaking process.

The wines of Gourt de Mautens are known for their depth, complexity, and balance. They are made in small batches and aged in large oak barrels (foudre), allowing the natural flavours and aromas of the grapes to develop slowly and intricately. The wines are powerful and concentrated, with rich fruit flavours, firm tannins, and a long, lingering finish.

Bressy’s wines are singular and unique, a reflection of the terroir of Rasteau and the dedication and expertise of a talented winemaker.

Overall, Domaine Gourt de Mautens is a testament to the power of biodynamic winemaking and the passion and dedication of Jérôme Bressy. His wines are a must-have in any serious collector’s cellar.
