Marc Sorrel
Tucked in the heart of Tain-l’Hermitage, Domaine Marc Sorrel is a name spoken with quiet reverence by those who know the Rhône’s most hallowed slopes. With holdings in the mythical parcels of Le Méal and Les Gréffieux, Marc Sorrel and now his son Guillaume produce wines that embody the timeless soul of Hermitage. These wines are powerful, structured, and built to age with grace.
Vinification is resolutely traditional: whole-cluster fermentation, indigenous yeasts, long macerations, and élevage in neutral oak barrels. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is forced. The wines are released when ready, often years after harvest, a rarity in the modern world of impatient turnover.
Production is minute. Allocations are fiercely contested. But those who manage to acquire a bottle are rewarded with a profound expression of place. Dense and savoury Syrah, with layers of black olive, violets, smoke, and granite. In exceptional years, the fabled “Gréal” cuvée (a blend of Gréffieux and Méal) stands among the greatest red wines of France.
This is Hermitage in its purest, most soulful form.
