Benjamin Leroux founded his Beaune label in 2007 after fifteen vintages at Domaine du Comte Armand. Today, he works with estate vineyards and trusted growers. In addition, he uses organic and biodynamic ideas, plus careful cellar work, to give each wine a clear sense of place.

Vineyards

La Pièce Sous le Bois occupies the highest Premier Cru site in Meursault. It lies above Blagny, between Meursault and Puligny. Leroux owns 1.55 hectares, where 1953 Chardonnay vines grow on rocky limestone and white clay. Because the vineyard sits so high, it gives the wine a cool and crisp character.

Winemaking and Maturation

Leroux farms the parcel with certified organic methods and biodynamic ideas. First, he presses the whole bunches. Then, native yeasts start the fermentation. He matures the wine in barrels for around 12 to 14 months with little new oak. Finally, he gives it another four to six months of rest after moving it from the barrels.

Tasting Notes

The wine opens with pear, apple, white peach and melon. In addition, citrus peel, jasmine and crushed stone add lift. The palate carries real weight, yet it stays crisp and balanced. Meanwhile, fine acidity drives the fruit forward. Finally, spice and a lightly salty note shape the long finish.
