Winemaking and Maturation
Over time, Boekenhoutskloof has established that Cabernet Franc is the cultivar best suited to the terroir, with three top-performing blocks having been planted in 1994 and 1995. The remainder of the grapes comes from a 23-year-old Merlot block, also on Boekenhoutskloof.
Tasting Notes
The nose is exceptionally complex, with intense blackcurrant, graphite and cigar box aromas. Cassis, subtle spice, perfume and lead pencil aromas follow through onto a lithe, precise mid-palate, showing pure red and dark berry fruit flavours and great depth.
The wine is suave and poised, yet powerful, with a delicate texture and firm, fine tannins. The wine lingers with a subtle spicy, cedary finish.
