Génot-Boulanger Meursault Les Meix Chavaux 2023

Domaine Génot-Boulanger began in Meursault in 1974. Today, Aude and Guillaume Lavollée farm 22 certified organic hectares across three Burgundy regions. In addition, gentle cellar work helps each wine show its vineyard clearly.

Vineyards

Les Meix Chavaux lies on the eastern edge of Meursault at mid-slope. The domaine farms 0.50 hectares there, with Chardonnay vines from 1970. A north-east aspect, shallow stony soil and cool air from Auxey-Duresses shape the site. Therefore, this vineyard gives an especially lively and focused Meursault.

Winemaking and Maturation

First, the team picks the grapes by hand, crushes them lightly and presses the whole bunches. Then, fermentation starts without added sulphur and continues in oak after a light settling. Next, the wine spends 12 months in barrel with about 10 to 15% new oak. The team then gives it six months in stainless steel. Finally, they bottle it without filtration.

Tasting Notes

Orange peel, apricot and Anjou pear lead the aroma. In addition, lemon, wet stone and white pepper add a fresh edge. The palate feels lively and strongly mineral, with pure fruit and cool herbs. Meanwhile, bright acidity keeps every flavour clear. Finally, a lightly salty citrus finish brings length and refreshment.
