Peyre Rose Clos des Cistes 2010

Marlène Soria created Peyre Rose on the heights above Saint-Pargoire and harvested her first wine grapes in 1988. Today, garrigue surrounds the organically farmed estate and protects its distinctive setting. She gives the wines exceptionally long cellar ageing, mainly in tanks and large old foudres. As a result, each release reaches the market with mature complexity and notable freshness.

Vineyards

Les Cistes, formerly Clos des Cistes, comes from the estate's high, hard-rock slopes. Syrah grows with Grenache in stony ground above Saint-Pargoire. The exposed site gives ripe fruit, yet the elevation helps the grapes retain acidity. Therefore, this cuvée combines generous Languedoc warmth with firm mineral energy.

Winemaking and Maturation

First, the team harvests the biodynamically farmed fruit by hand. Then, partial destemming and an extended maceration draw flavour and fine tannin from the skins. Next, regular pump-overs support gentle extraction. Finally, several years in tank and a long bottle rest bring the powerful components together.

Tasting Notes

Wild blackberry, flowers and garrigue lead the aroma. In addition, mocha, spice and smoke give the nose a dark, complex edge. The palate feels dense and warm, although fresh acidity keeps the fruit clear. Meanwhile, fine tannins frame the concentrated centre without drying it. Finally, toast and smoke shape the intense, persistent finish.
