Marlène Soria created Peyre Rose on the heights above Saint-Pargoire and harvested her first wine grapes in 1988. Today, garrigue surrounds the organically farmed estate and protects its distinctive setting. She gives the wines exceptionally long cellar ageing, mainly in tanks and large old foudres. As a result, each release reaches the market with mature complexity and notable freshness.

Vineyards

Les Cistes comes from the highest, hardest and stoniest part of the estate. Syrah dominates the blend, while Grenache and Mourvèdre add warmth and savoury depth. The rocky clay-limestone ground naturally limits vigour. As a result, the wine gains dense fruit, strong structure and enough acidity for a long life.

Winemaking and Maturation

First, the team hand-picks the organically farmed grapes. Then, a long maceration and measured pump-overs build colour and texture. Next, Marlène Soria matures the wine for close to ten years, with three quarters in tank and one quarter in foudre. Finally, extended bottle ageing softens the tannins before release.

Tasting Notes

The 2011 starts with ripe black fruit, cranberry preserve and plum. Then, cistus, woodland, tobacco and garrigue add a distinctly Mediterranean character. The palate feels broad, silky and velvety, yet fresh acidity balances its scale. Meanwhile, liquorice and pepper sharpen the fruit. Finally, powerful tannins carry the savoury flavours into an exceptionally long finish.
