Peyre Rose Les Cistes 2016

Marlène Soria created Peyre Rose on the heights above Saint-Pargoire and harvested her first wine grapes in 1988. Today, garrigue surrounds the organically farmed estate and protects its distinctive setting. She gives the wines exceptionally long cellar ageing, mainly in tanks and large old foudres. As a result, each release reaches the market with mature complexity and notable freshness.

Vineyards

Les Cistes comes from Syrah-led parcels on the upper part of Peyre Rose. Hard, stony clay-limestone soils restrain the vines and support slow ripening. Grenache adds fruit and breadth to the blend. Because the site combines sun with altitude, the wine shows ripe flavour without losing its energetic shape.

Winemaking and Maturation

First, the team hand-harvests fruit from the organically farmed vines. Then, partial destemming and a long maceration build depth without rushing extraction. Next, Marlène Soria gives the wine several years in tank and a smaller portion in large foudre. Finally, bottle ageing develops complexity while preserving the fruit.

Tasting Notes

The 2016 shows ripe blackberry, dark cherry and a clear floral note. In addition, garrigue, liquorice and warm spice add savoury detail. The palate feels composed and energetic, with generous fruit and firm but polished tannins. Meanwhile, fresh acidity keeps the dense centre lively. Finally, the finish feels long, herbal and quietly smoky.
