Sadie Family ‘T Voetpad Field Blend 2013

Vineyards

North-west Piquetberg Mountains, Western Cape

Winemaking and Maturation

The vineyard’s survival without irrigation is also extraordinary in this hot valley in the north of the huge Swartland region, near the village of Aurora and Elands Bay on the coast. Its precise location has allowed it to survive, with an underground river flowing beneath it from the mountains. No herbicides have been used. It is a special and unique place, producing wines of great character.

’T Voetpad is a field blend of all the varieties – they are picked and pressed together, and co-fermented in old wooden casks.

Tasting Notes

This ‘T Voetpad is incredibly expressive. The usual waxy and lanolin aromatics are found, but the cordial limey aromatics, dried straw bales, and a melon dash are concentrated. The palate has a lingering aftertaste. The tannins are restrained, and the acidity is very soft on the finish. It is one of this vineyard’s most elegant and refined versions. We also had to pick slightly earlier due to the looming heat waves. The wine is just a Mindbender this year.
