CASTELLO ROMITORIO

Perched on a hill overlooking the village of Montalcino, Castello Romitorio is a testament to history and artistic brilliance in the world of wine. The wines, a true reflection of Montalcino’s soul, have garnered global recognition, propelling the estate to the forefront of the region. Each bottle is a unique blend of tradition and innovation, a testament to the artistry and dedication of the estate.

The story of Castello Romitorio began in 1984 when artist Sandro Chia swapped his paintings for the estate. Sandro Chia, a pioneer of Italy’s “Transavanguardia” Neo-Expressionist movement, transformed the castle into his studio and fervently dedicated himself to the surrounding vineyards.

In 2005, Chia’s son Filippo joined the estate, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Guided by winemaker Franco Martini’s expertise, the team embraced Chia’s legacy, fusing innovation with tradition.

At the core of Castello Romitorio’s philosophy lies a profound respect for the land. With fifteen meticulously tended hectares on ferrous and magnesium-rich soils, the vineyards experience varying microclimates and elevations. From the slopes behind Montosoli Hill at 200 meters to parcels reaching 500 meters, each vineyard uniquely influences the wines.

For those seeking an extraordinary experience, Castello Romitorio is a name of substance. Encompassing a rich history, an intimate connection to the land, and an unwavering commitment to crafting exceptional wines, the estate encapsulates the spirit of Montalcino.
