Based in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux’s dedication to its vineyards and willingness to challenge convention give Burgundy lovers much to discover.
The appeal begins immediately with the people and their approach to growing Pinot Noir. It comes through in the wines: expressive, finely textured, and deeply connected to the vineyards from which they come.
A family Domaine with a fresh perspective
Founded in 1858, Arnoux-Lachaux has deep roots in Burgundy. Today, Florence Arnoux-Lachaux heads the 14-hectare estate alongside her son, Charles Lachaux.
Since joining the Domaine in 2011, Charles has continually reconsidered how they farm their vineyards. Regenerative agriculture, biodynamic principles and grazing animals among the vines form part of an approach that gives close attention to the vineyard as a living environment.
Changes include gobelet pruning, high trellising and the complete cessation of shoot trimming. Allowing the vines to grow without cutting back their tips reflects a desire to understand and work with their natural balance.What makes this approach compelling is the conviction behind it. Charles’s commitment to the Domaine’s future shows up in practical, demanding work in the vineyards, season after season.
From whole bunches to ceramic
That thinking continues in the cellar. Whole-bunch fermentation, introduced in 2012, is combined with short macerations and minimal intervention, aiming to preserve the individuality of each vineyard.
From the 2022 vintage, ceramic vessels replaced oak barrels entirely for maturation. It is a striking decision in Burgundy, and a revealing one: Charles is prepared to rethink every aspect of the winemaking process to achieve a clearer expression of his terroirs.
The character of the wines
Arnoux-Lachaux’s recent wines are celebrated for their finesse, texture and clarity. These are Pinot Noirs almost like no other. With such intense depth and detail, they offer the kind of intricacy that invites a truly thought-provoking drinking experience.
