Peyre Rose Syrah Léone 2002

Peyre Rose Syrah Léone 2002

Marlène Soria created Peyre Rose on the heights above Saint-Pargoire and harvested her first wine grapes in 1988. Today, garrigue surrounds the organically farmed estate and protects its distinctive setting. She gives the wines exceptionally long cellar ageing, mainly in tanks and large old foudres. As a result, each release reaches the market with mature complexity and notable freshness.

Vineyards

Syrah Léone takes its name from the variety that anchors the blend. Syrah grows with Mourvèdre on friable limestone that drains freely above Saint-Pargoire. This ground encourages deep roots and gives the wine a dark, structured profile. However, the limestone also brings enough freshness to balance the ripe fruit.

Winemaking and Maturation

First, the team hand-picks the fruit and sorts it carefully. Then, a long maceration develops the deep colour and firm tannins. Next, Marlène Soria gives the wine a very long élevage in tank and large foudres. Finally, patient bottle ageing rounds the structure and reveals the wine's mature savoury notes.

Tasting Notes

The 2002 opens gently with raspberry preserve and other ripe red fruit. Then, liquorice, black olive and sweet spice add depth. The palate feels full and harmonious, with refined tannins from the long maturation. Meanwhile, a light mineral note lifts the rich fruit and keeps the wine balanced. Finally, the finish feels long, savoury and fresh.
